Results found from upgrading the RAM on a PC from 128MB to 512MB can increase system performance up to 35 percent! The same system saw a 43 percent gain with 1GB of RAM! That means faster, smoother computing, plus fewer "lock-ups" and less time spent waiting for your computer to do its thing. If your system is low on available memory it has to move data to a temporary store on the hard disk in order to free up RAM. This is a relatively slow operation and will cause delays between operations.
Hard drive or fixed drive
This is where all your documents, pictures and music are stored.
If you are storing a lot of large documents, pictures or MP3s your hard drive can 'fill up'. If this happens your system will slow down and possibly grind to a complete stop. You will have to delete some files to recover the situation.
